Wailua Golf Course

No. 4 – Par 4
By. Mike Dauplaise

Wailua Golf Course’s par-4 fourth is the first hole you’ll see as you drive about 10 minutes north from the airport along the east side of the island. The hole doglegs slightly right around a pond with a few tall palm trees ready to grab wayward tee shots. Since the pond collects water in that part of the course, it can swell in size during rainy periods. There are a few holes at Wailua that feature a wide yardage difference between the blue and white tees, and this is one of them.

You have plenty of room down the left side of the fairway away from the pond, and the prevailing wind blows toward the left, too. However, the right side offers the shortest route as well as the optimal angle into a rather narrow green. Bunkers guard both sides of the putting surface, leaving a tough recovery shot from either one if the pin is in the narrow lower half of the green.
